Proposed Field Day on Snowdon

I've arranged with Steve Chambers for a LASW field day on Snowdon on either Thu 22nd or Fri 23th of September. Steve wants to keep the date flexible either to allow us to choose the better day weather wise or if most apprentices have a particular preference. The plan would be to meet at Pen y Pass (Grid ref SH64735562) at 9.30am and spend time in Cwm Dyli, preferably fairly high up and possibly below Clogwyn y Garnedd, the large cliff area below the summit of Snowdon. Obviously the final locations depend on weather conditions. There are areas of base-rich rock at lower altitudes which could be visited if the weather is unsuitable for higher levels.

The car park at Pen y Pass can fill up rather rapidly, especially if the weather is good, and the parking charge is rather prohibitive (£10/day), so I suggest, meeting initially in the laybys just north of the Pen y Gwryd hotel (Grid reference SH66205595) on either side of the A498, from where one or more persons can ferry the group up to Pen y Pass. I might be able to use the ECN Land-Rover for some of this.

Obviously people would need to bring the appropriate PPE equipment which would include at the very minimum good boots and waterproofs, warm clothing, map, compass and food.
